Valve Gaming Hardware In The Works

Valve Gaming Hardware In The Works

With the next generation console for Nintendo coming later this year, and announcements for the next Microsoft and PlayStation consoles expected in the near future, Valve appears to be preparing to throw it's hat into the console war ring.

Job postings on the companies official website seek out experienced Electronics and Mechanical Hardware Engineers. Making it quite clear that they are taking a step in the direction of gaming hardware the listing says: “For years, Valve has been all about writing software that provides great gameplay experiences. Now we’re developing hardware to enhance those experiences, and you can be a key part of making that happen. Join our highly motivated team that’s doing hardware design, prototyping, testing, and production across a wide range of platforms. We’re not talking about me-too mice and gamepads here – help us invent whole new gaming experiences.“

It's not too far fetched to assume that when and if this hardware is released, it will be integrated with some form of Valves Steam service. Allowing you to access your entire library of Steam games on your PC, or on the couch courtesy of Valves own hardware.

Is this what we can expect for the next generation of consoles: Wii U, Xbox 720, PlayStation 4, Valve Steambox?

that does make it more interesting. I will be watching closely!

Well this will be a fail valve tech support well any kind of support for them is so bad that people would be to scared to buy a console that they would email them and not get a reply for 9 months

I think this is jumping the gun here. I do not read this as obvious evidence that they are planning to throw their hat into the console race. I think there's a little too much reading into the words printed. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to be peripherals, but more inventive peripherals than the me too mice and such.

It is interesting they would jump in such a large arena, but I am all for more competition. Can they do it? I mean can they make an amazing system? Sure, why not?

Steam is a decent system, but you know it will be a download only system. so I see it depending on how people think of 'steam' and buying digital games only.
